Snowyte wins Shuvee Stakes at Saratoga for Grade 2 breakthrough

Snowyte won the Shuvee Stakes at Saratoga on Friday, finishing first in the Grade 2, $250,000 race for fillies and mares 4 and older at 1 1/8 miles on dirt. The Good Magic filly handled Race 8 at the Spa with Luis Saez aboard, turning a Saratoga feature into a clear statement about where she belongs in the older filly-and-mare division.

The Shuvee carried enough weight to matter beyond one afternoon. Daily Racing Form had already singled it out as its Friday Race of the Day, and the race shape of a 1 1/8-mile dirt stakes at Saratoga tends to separate horses that can settle, sustain and finish from those that need a softer setup. Snowyte’s top finish suggests she did more than simply pick up a convenient graded win. She answered a race designed to test stamina and positioning, and she did it in one of the meet’s more closely watched spots for older females.

Snowyte came into the race with a profile that fit a serious contender. BloodHorse listed her as a 2022 bay filly owned by Don Alberto Stable, bred by Don Alberto Corporation and trained by Danny Gargan. Horse Racing Nation listed her with a recent 6.39 HRN Speed rating and paired Gargan with Saez, a combination that gave the Shuvee a familiar Saratoga look for a barn trying to place a developing filly into stronger company.

The win gives Gargan and Don Alberto Stable a useful piece of the Saratoga summer map. A Grade 2 victory at the Spa can open doors quickly in a division where the next target often depends on whether a runner has already proven she can handle company this deep. Snowyte did that here, and she did it in a race that asked for more than raw class: the older filly-and-mare group at Saratoga usually rewards horses that can hold a spot through the lane and still finish with authority. Snowyte’s Shuvee result now puts her among the names to watch for the rest of the meet and into the late-summer stakes picture.
